Questions about bookkeeping — answered straight.

What it costs, what a bookkeeper actually does, when you need one, and what makes Avenue Bookkeeping different.

How much does a bookkeeper cost in Spokane?

Monthly bookkeeping for a small business in Spokane typically runs $200–$800 per month. 2025 pricing data puts basic monthly service at $250–$350, mid-range at $500–$700, and premium engagements at $1,000+. The variables that move price: how many monthly transactions you run, how many bank and credit card accounts feed into your books, and whether you want AP/AR or payroll added. Avenue Bookkeeping prices à la carte. You pay only for the specific services your business needs.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

Bookkeepers keep your books current. Accountants do tax filing and bigger-picture financial advice. They're different roles. A bookkeeper handles day-to-day work: categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing monthly P&L and balance sheets. Your accountant uses those records at tax time and advises on the broader strategy. Most small businesses need both — a bookkeeper year-round and an accountant at tax season.

Do I need a bookkeeper for my small business?

If you spend hours on your own books each month, you make decisions without clear numbers in front of you, or you dread tax season because the records aren't ready — yes. A bookkeeper hands those problems off so you can spend that time on your customers instead.

What bookkeeping services does Avenue Bookkeeping offer?

Avenue Bookkeeping offers QuickBooks® Online Setup, Monthly Bookkeeping, Financial Statements, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll Services, Bookkeeping Cleanup, and QuickBooks® App Integration. Every service is available individually — you choose only what your business needs.

Do you work with businesses outside Spokane?

Yes — Avenue Bookkeeping serves clients in Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, and Rathdrum. All work happens virtually through QuickBooks® Online.

Do you specialize in QuickBooks®?

Yes. Melody is QuickBooks® Online Certified at Level 1, Level 2, and Payroll. In practice that means setup done right the first time, app integrations that actually move data accurately between systems, and reporting that reflects how your business runs (not just the QuickBooks® defaults).

How do I get started with Avenue Bookkeeping?

Book a free phone consultation via the Calendly link on this site, or call (509) 309-7744. On the call we'll talk about your business and where your books currently stand. By the end of the conversation you'll have a clear answer on which services fit and what they cost. No sales push.

Do bookkeepers save you money?

In most cases, yes — two ways. First, clean books mean your CPA or tax preparer spends less time sorting your records, which directly lowers your tax prep bill. Second, accurate monthly financials surface uncategorized expenses your CPA can then deduct, cash flow gaps, and billing errors that DIY bookkeeping routinely buries. The bigger cost of bad books is the decisions you make without good data — overspending, undercharging, or missing the right moment to hire.

What does a bookkeeper do every month?

Each month your bookkeeper reconciles bank and credit card accounts, classifies every transaction, and produces a profit & loss and a balance sheet. The result: you can see what your business actually earned and spent — not just what's in the bank account. At Avenue, this is the core of monthly bookkeeping.

How long does bookkeeping cleanup take?

It depends on the backlog. A few months behind can typically be cleaned up in 1–2 weeks. Years of disorganized records take longer. Cost scales with scope — the number of months to reconcile, how many accounts feed into the books, and how disorganized the existing records are when work begins. Avenue's bookkeeping cleanup service starts with an assessment, so you get a fixed scope and price before any work begins. No open-ended hourly bills.

Can you handle both bookkeeping and payroll?

Yes. Avenue offers bookkeeping and payroll as separate services. Add payroll alongside monthly bookkeeping, or use either on its own. Payroll includes pay runs, federal and state tax deposits, W-2s and 1099s at year-end, and quarterly returns. Nothing is bundled — you choose what you need.

What industries do you work with?

Service businesses are the core of Avenue Bookkeeping's client base — local service companies, professional practices, and small operations across the Inland Northwest. Melody has direct operational experience in restaurants (over a decade of restaurant management) and dental and healthcare practices (nearly a decade running a dental office), so those industries get an extra layer of context that comes from actually having sat in the operator's seat. Beyond those, Avenue serves contractors and trades, professional services (consulting, marketing, law), and retail and ecommerce. Every engagement is scoped to the cash flow patterns of the specific business. Clients are based across the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area, with work delivered virtually through QuickBooks® Online.
